Description:
New York State had the largest popluation of any
state in the Union by 1861. New York had over 360,000 troops involved in
the Civil War. This course will examine the life of a typical New York soldier
that left the farm in 1861 to fight for the Union cause. Teachers will be immersed
in an 1860's farm experience then recruited to join the Union Army. Teachers
will be in full period dress. Teachers will also learn about the origins of
baseball and finish the course with an actual game played on Doubleday Field
in Cooperstown.
