Brief History: This festival began with just Ms. Peluse & Ms. Slayton's Inclusion class of 22 students in 2005-2006. It started with 9 centers. Children moved from center to center on command of the drums (just like soldier's were told what to do and when to do it). That year over a one week period,100 Krieger 3rd and 4th grade students attended our festival. We were featured in two local newspapers: The Poughkeepsie Journal, and The Weekly Beat. . Afterwards, two other 4th grade teachers (Mabb & Siudy) asked to get involved.

In 2005-2006, our festival grew to 65 student experts teaching15 centers and 450-500 fourth grade students (and Krieger's third graders) attending from the Poughkeepsie City School District. This year we were featured in the same two local newspapers and on Time Warner Cable television's Channel Six News.

Next year, in 2007-2008 we plan to reorganize and improve the festival to make it look like a colonial town. The centers will be grouped in sections for children's activities, women's activities, apprenticing trades, and soldier's activities. We will also plan to hold the festival for 2 weeks and invite PCSD's 4th graders and neighboring school district 4th graders to attend. In addition, we have received a grant from Teaching the Hudson Valley to take our students to visit four historic sites and do research to help make the festival even better.
